Today I bid a fond farewell to Sweden after quite an exciting and productive (both in work and in knit) trip. I leave carrying a veritable smörgåsbord of knitting fantastic-ness. There is that lovely coral wool from Sticka that I feel is destined for greatness as a luna-type shawl. And 8 skeins (OMG! There is not enough room in my suitcase for this!) of sock wool which will be divided into three projects: some “Where’s Waldo-esque” knee socks, some other socks (still to be determined) and a Scandinavian-inspired Baby Cap for my landlords’ baby.
I also depart with three finished socks in tow: the Monkeys, of course, and the first Pomatamous. I fear that the life of Mr. Pomatamous # One may be cut short as I am not sure that I have enough yarn left for the second sock. It will be close. I imagine I will know if I’ll be doing some ripping after the flight. Fingers crossed.
A bit of a side note: I really can’t say enough how much I am in LOVE with the yarn I’m using for the Pomatamous socks: Catalina Yarns Sol Joy. It seems as though it is still in pre-production. Originally it was available only in limited quantities through Kerry’s blog, although you might still be able to get it from Adirondack Yarns. I don’t know when we can expect it to hit the world in full force, but when it does you owe it to yourself to pick up a skein or two. Oh, and it smells really good too.
But back to my Stockholm reflections: I also leave with some fond memories of Stockholm knitters. After my WWKIP Day adventures, I visited the STHLM Knitters’ Stickcafé on Tuesday at Ginoscoffee near Odenplan. Such a fun group! And they were kind enough to speak in English. (First order of business when I get back, enroll in a Swedish class.) They’ve been meeting now for over three years, so chances are good that I’ll be able to knit with them again in January when I return.
I could tell you about the actual work I did while here, but that would be boring. So I suppose I will leave things there.
So-long fair Stockholm! You will be missed!
