I thought this might be a good time to reflect on the status of all (oh so many) of my crafty items that are want to fall into the shadow of other, more shiny and new projects. Let’s take a look at the sidebar, shall we?
First… the Shiny! The New!
1) Mom’s Super Secret Mystery Object: I know, secrets aren’t fun, especially on blogs. I mean, what’s the point, really? Ho-hum. I’m pretty well on top of this item. It’s small enough to carry around with me (oh no! Is that a hint?), so it’s been getting a lot of attention lately, especially on the bus. (I direct you to Ravelry for more info on this item.)
2) Mendota Ripple: It is so fabulous to have a project to just pick up whenever I’m just sitting around bored, watching TV, ready for bed but not tired yet, etc. I highly recommend always having a boredom project in the works. It’s going a bit slower now that it is not standing in as a Prelim Procrastination Tool, but it’s coming along all the same. I’d say I’m at the halfway point. I have started deviating from the random stripe pattern (generate one today!)– deviating from a random pattern at random? Well, gosh! That must be randomness squared!!! This is blowing my mind!!!
3) Gram’s Rona: Susan suggested that I am quite “brave” to take on this project… I appreciate the positive wording, cause I was thinking that the correct word might actually be “crazy.” I’m still feeling confident, but yesterday I spent about an hour ripping back, knitting up, still thinking something was wrong and ripping back again, only to finally realize that I had misread one of the “Special Abbreviations” and had inadvertently added a stitch. Dumb. But all is well with the world now and we are cruising forward once again at Round 36. I guess this project is going to teach me something about lifelines!
4) I suppose it would be fair to include Embroidery School here as well. Ran out to the big bad box store last night and picked up a bunch of thread, needles and a hoop so I’m all set to get stitching. Flashbacks to Montessori School…
Okay… now we get to the embarrassing WIP stuff: the projects that have been languishing on the sidebar for forever, leaving me sheepishly hiding under my desk. Ready for some excuses? Ok!
5) The Amigurumi Panda: Featured Excuse: Lack of a Recipient. I think I had originally planned to gift this to my grad school buddy (recipient of the Seija Set). I need to get back into that Gifting mental space. Focus. Er.
6) Isabella Sweater: Featured Excuse: Spring Colorway. What was I thinking starting a project with pastel yarn in April? I mean, Hellooooo? Pastels? There was no way I was going to finish this puppy in the season for which it was intended. Seriously.
7) Norwegian Baby Cap: Featured Excuse: 1) She just grows too fast! 2) The baby isn’t due till November. Actually, I don’t feel too guilty about these UFOs. I actually finished the first of the caps, but sadly Baby C has already zoomed past the 1 year size. I probably should have guessed this, but what do I know about babies? So I need to cast on again for number 1. Number 2 is sooooooo close to being done. Just need to finish the i-cord ties. And there’s still ~3 months until Kyle and Kelly’s baby is due. Tons of time, right? Right.
Okay, so that wasn’t so bad… Perhaps I will make this some sort of bi-weekly ritual.
In other news… count down to P-burgh. Keep those yarn store recommendations coming! (Thank you for bulking up my list, Leslie!)
